It was worth mentioning that Lung Ying-tsung ( b.1911), a new writer, won the contest sponsored by the magazine Reconstruction (kaizo/gai-tsao) with his virgin work The Town with Papaya (papaya no aru machi/chi-yuo mu-kua de hsiao-chen). It again proved Taiwanese writers' mastery of the Japanese language.

1939 -1940
Taiwan Literary Author's Association(Taiwan bungeika kyokai/T'ai-wan wen-yi-chia hsieh-hui) was formed by sixty two Taiwanese and Japanese writers and poets inclusive of all important authors. Its organ Literary Taiwan(bungei Taiwan/wen-yi T'ai-wan) was managed by Japanese writer and poet Nishikawa Mitsuru. On the surface, it appeared as if both the organization and the organ were jointly run by Taiwanese and Japanese. However, they were actually led by the Japanese. And after reorganization the following year, Nishikawa took over the complete control.

It published some Taiwanese literary works, however, most works were of the Japanese writers resided in Taiwan. Its greatest contribution must have been the discovery of the then eighteen- year old writer Yeh Shi-tao (b. 1925) who shone like a star. The magazine published a total of forty three issues until the end of 1943. It was unusual for a literary magazine to last for so long under colonial regime, except that it was partly controlled by the colonial government.


1941
On December 7, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and touched off the Pacific War. With the escalation of the war, the Japanese stepped up their war campaign efforts and actively mobilized people in the colony. In Taiwan, they expanded forced draft of a large number of military coolie (gunpu/chun-fu), Aboriginal volunteers Corps(Takasago giyutai/kao-sha yi-yung-duei).

1942 -1943
Military Volunteer Systems and Navy Volunteer systems, Imperialization Movement (kominka undo/huang-min-hua yung-tung), Changing Family and Given Name Movement (kaiseimei undo/gai-hsing-ming yung-tung) were forced upon Taiwanese.

Literary Patriotism (bungei hokoku/wen-yi bao-kuo) were reflected in the publication in
